At Ray White Goulburn & Crookwell, community is at the heart of everything we do. For years, our annual Little Ray Of Giving campaign has been a festive staple—a way for our team and our wonderful clients to sprinkle a little bit of Christmas joy onto foster children and families who are doing it tough.
But what happens when the decorations come down, the new year rolls around, and the need in our community remains?
In our latest video, Principal Justin Gay, Sales Manager Jess Grashorn, and Michelle Redman from Marymead CatholicCare share the deeply moving evolution of The Little Ray Of Giving Fund—and how a sudden wave of local generosity turned a holiday drive into a year-round lifeline.
Two years ago, a massive turning point arrived when the Street Torque Car Club approached us wanting to support the cause. Their incredible fundraising efforts resulted in a surplus of donations that went well beyond what was needed for our Christmas drive.
Instead of letting that momentum fade, an idea was born. We realized we had the perfect foundation to establish a permanent, ongoing fund. Rather than just making an impact in December, we could now provide practical, immediate support 364 days a year.
Working hand-in-hand with agencies like Marymead CatholicCare, the fund targets the most vulnerable among us: children being unexpectedly placed into emergency care.
When a child is suddenly removed from a difficult situation, they often leave with absolutely nothing. Through the fund, we are able to immediately step in and purchase the absolute basics.
For our Sales Manager, Jess Grashorn, the reality of the fund truly hit home after welcoming her own child.
“One of the carers came to us about a little girl who had been removed from her home and placed into care with nothing. We got to go shopping for her, but as a new mom, it really hit home. You realize just how important it is to be able to help these people in our community when they are in absolute need.” — Jess Grashorn, Sales Manager
The impact of these everyday items goes much deeper than just material support. When a child arrives with a backpack full of brand-new, clean clothes and essentials, it takes a massive weight off the shoulders of local foster parents.
Michelle Redman, Team Leader at Marymead CatholicCare Canberra & Goulburn, notes that the difference the fund makes is immeasurable. By taking care of the immediate financial and practical pressures, the fund allows new carers to focus entirely on what matters most: dedicating their time, love, and emotional support to help a child settle securely into their new placement.
Furthermore, the fund acts as a safety net for local families who find themselves “one unexpected expense away from instability.”
“This fund has the potential to be enormous in our local community,” says Principal Justin Gay. “The success of it is something we really want to grow, and that’s why it is truly important—not just to our business, but to the people we live and work alongside every day.”
